I figured I would share with everyone what my cat Kato looks like, considering I’ve mentioned him many times.
This is my cat Kato. ^^ He looks a little ragged here, I’m sorry, but I have this inane ability to never take photos.. x.x; Only when it’s too late.
When we first adopted him (then he, us afterward), he came from a house full of Cat’s. A Wild Tom kitty, full of scratches and everything.
He began to plump up, I had trained him to do a few commands. (He could sit, stay and come when I called, and when treats were involved. XD).
My mom named him after the fictional character portrayed by Bruce Lee in the TV Series/Comic, “Green Hornet”. Kato was Green Hornet’s butler. (Speaking of which, small Trivia, in Sonic X, Mr. Tanaka is a spoof of Kato, as well. This is particularly apparent in one of the episodes in the SA2 Saga, where Tanaka and Chris “dress up” and use that Ducky boat to get around. The mask/outfit Tanaka wear’s was Kato’s, from the Green Hornet. XD)
Ahem. Kato’s nicknames included, Kate, Boog, “Bed and Breakfast”, Elvis, and Snorlax.
Because his favorite things to do were Eat and Sleep.
When we adopted him, he was about 2 or 3 years old, from what the Humane Society had guessed, and all adopted kitties from there end up with a Birthday of June 6th.
Kato was adopted about 2-4 month’s after my Mom’s cat, Salem, passed away. My mom thought it was too soon, but the way Kato looked at us, and us at him, we knew he was gonna be adopted by us.
He had quite a grumpy attitude when he was tired, and hungry. And he’d let you know by nipping at your heels.
He was quite agressive toward other Male cat’s, but he was fine around girls. Who knew? ![]()
Some of the funniest moments, was when we were living at our Grandma’s, we had put some cat food down in front of the oven, and he BOLTED for the food, crashing into the oven door, forgetting about the food, then walked away, confused. XD
When he was doing something stupid, or getting into trouble, I’d come running and he’d freak out because he knew he was in trouble. We had often played the “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” with the rolling Rock down the stairs type thing, as I’d come running after him. ![]()
My brother had adopted two kittens when he was living with us last September. About this time, the black and white one named Sylvester possibly got into a fight with Kato (We weren’t sure who really did, but Sylvester was commonly found play-attacking Kate), and his right eye was scratched. Not particularly deeply, but enough to cause some irritation.
We took Kate to the vet to get it checked out, and got eyedrops. A couple of months later, he started developing a runny nose. I looked up some info on that, and waited a while. If it was Kitty Cold, it would pass–put it never did. Taking him back to the vet, the vet noticed he was missing a tooth, and that his teeth were in terrible condition (which Kato was actually prone for… Some kitties just have poor dental health which cannot be treated).
The Doctor said that the runny nose was most likely from an infection, from his poor dental health, and recommended some dentistry work to get it fixed. Under the hopeful assumption that this could fix the problem, I agreed. (I still consider this to be one of the biggest mistakes I made..)
Kato came home, healed fine… but he never ate. He had no more teeth, really… He couldn’t smell his food, and he couldn’t eat. He started to grow deathly thin, and I was very concerned, but the doctor assured me it was good for his health to loose some weight. But his nose was still snotty. He began snorting loudly, sneezing often, and not being able to sleep or eat.
Desperate I took him back, and the Doctor tried various pills to try and help KAto, but nothing worked. The Vet had mentioned that he saw no Tumor’s in Kato, otherwise he would have been concerned. I wish he had taken the X-Ray’s I wanted back then, instead of waiting even longer… Another month or so, and Kato’s face started to grow from the side of his nose.
Worried, we took Kato to a different Vet. The very first one he ever went to when we adopted him–a Feline only clinic. We wanted him to see the first Doctor he ever saw, too, but she was on vacation…
The Doctor that did see us, had said the growth was soft-tissue related, and felt like it ate away at his skull. No amount of surgery could fix soft-tissue growths, as they re-grow quickly.
Dissapointed we returned home… Now I have had final X-Ray’s done on Kato, it’s confirmed it’s not just a giant puss filled growth, it really had destroyed his skull.
We let Kato do what he likes, drinking Milk, sleeping all the time. I bought him a heating pad that he sleeps on often.
We love you Kate, very much.
