Wahoo! I finally managed to get some of my art into the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this year, in the official book.
Closer to the show, I’ll post the image here, but there will also be a charity auction held for the print as well. ^_^ I’m glad I made it in, it feels great.
*Dances*
Also, in the middle of packing now… Going to be on my way to Quebec soon. I shall be missing my beloved slurpees, so here is an homage picture. Behold, the perfect pouring! ^_~

Whew. @_@ Bout time I posted this, sorry for the lateness. here’s the colored version. ^_^ I hope you enjoy it.
“In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Diaochan is touted as the fourth of the three most beautiful maidens in all of China, and I decided to give a shot at a princess-looking Chinese maiden. Adorned in lace, beads, and a wonderfully woven silk dress, she stands by a peach tree located outside a Moongate, reaching for one of the fruits. The peach represents prosperity and everlasting youth, which Diaochan was often associated with herself. Her lover, Lu Bu, was so smitten with her that he even killed his adoptive father and Diaochan’s lord, Dong Zhuo, to make sure that she was only his. I was originally wanting to go with a soft water color style to portray how soft and delicate the character and her surroundings were, but instead decided to go with some bold colors and a soft shading. Surprisingly, when researching peach trees, it was interesting to see that contrary to the more popular cherry tree, peach trees have very dark bark and only flowers blooming from their thick, wiry branches. So they really don’t have much foliage at all! You learn something new all the time.”
Here we are…! Inking. ^_^
Most of the final detailing will be painted in over top. Such as the peach tree blossoms (Which peach trees aren’t over foliage’d to begin with.), the flowers around, and the soft forest behind the Moon gate.
I did make some last-minute design change decisions, like to show her long hair, instead of tying it up, and to make her smile a bit more.
Uhm, heheh. ^_^ This is my submission for the Artist Block Party book for the Calgary Comic Expo Artists about Illustrated Classics. (Whew! What a line)
I chose one of my favourite novels, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and decided upon Diaochan.
In the book, Diaochan is touted as the fourth of the three most beautiful maidens in all of China, and I decided to give a shot at a princess-looking Chinese maiden. Adorned in lace, beads, and a wonderfully woven silk dress, she stands by a peach tree located outside a Moongate, reaching for one of the fruits.
The peach represents prosperity and everlasting youth, with Diaochan was often associated with herself.
I tried to give some textures to some things that weren’t quite there, to make the sketch easier to understand, it is still a sketch, after all. A pebbled path beside the grass patch, and the rough cluster of the leaves from the peach tree.
I’ll post the progress on this image as I go along. From Inked, to rough colors, to final image.
Part 6 – Ginger Tabby
Part 6 in a series of faux black felt “paintings” of cat portrait’s. This one is styled as a classic Ginger or Orange colored Tabby. A Ginger tabby is one of the classic “Tom Cat” styles, that you can normally find prowling around late at night.
Orange Tabby’s tend to be portrayed as the ‘Cat among Cats’ in most cartoons and things, and are a common type to be seen along the streets in Japan. Not quite as popular (or lucky) as the Calico cat, they are still welcomed.
